Happy Veteran’s Day

Posted By admin on November 11, 2009

I am so thankful to those who have sacrificed their lives for my freedom and to give my children a safe world to grow up in.  And regardless of my thoughts about where our country is going now or our present government, I appreciate those who have served and are serving to protect us.

In our family, there have been some heroes, all of whom have made it back home from their time overseas.  I wanted to honor them today and say, “thank you so much for serving, and thank you (and God) for coming back home. You have fought for our freedoms and served, even when serving was unpopular, because you believed in your country, you have protected the freedoms that we hold dear, made this a better place for our children to grow up in and you have made our family so much better by being in it.  I love you.”

I wish I had military pictures of each of them, but I don’t, so I will share what I have.

My uncle Jim Tetreault also served in the military in Germany. I do not have any pictures of him, however.  Gotta fix that!

  1. Because these and others volunteered to serve, my sons did not have to fight and were free to choose other paths.
As thankful as I am for that, there is something enormously valuable about serving in the military, and in that sense I feel some sorrow that my sons did not choose the same paths as their grandfathers and uncles, and will never experience what made recruits into men.
I hope that Brian can be convinced once he retires to pen some of his thoughts about the value of serving and his other experiences of this aspect of his life. Mom
