18 months

Can you believe that my Brogie Bear is 18 months old?  It is hard to fathom how time has flown, but with the changes that he has made in this week alone, it isn’t hard to believe that the baby days are fleeting at the McGlinchey house.

Sometime in the last month, Brogie had his last bottle.  I know you are thinking, “well it’s about time!”  It is a funny thing with the 4th child, though.  12 months (when all the others lost theirs) was just way too young this time.   Anyway, I will be giving him a bottle this week so that I can enjoy his “last” bottle.  Pathetic, I know.

Within the last week, little Matty-B has learned so many words.  “Candy” seems to be his favorite at the moment, although he loves yelling “Baaabbbbbby” (Abby), “Daisy”, “Mimi” and “GJ” (CJ). “Turkey” is my absolute favorite word that he says at the moment, which works out well for him.  Whenever he says it I give him more just to hear him say it again.  Being a child who loves to eat, he is saying the word a lot!  “Poo poo” is a new favorite word also, I am hoping that it means good things as far as the days left in diapers! He also says “bad” when we are yelling at the dog, makes all the flying and driving vehicle noises and growls when something drops out of his hands.  This boy delights the heck out of us.

Last night, Brogie spent his first night in a big boy bed.  Oh, heavens y’all.  What a terrible thing that is for a mommy!  Yesterday morning, Brenden had gone in to get Brogie out of bed and found him hanging by his waist, face toward the ground and screaming.  Apparently someone doesn’t have the hang of climbing out of his bed yet.  However…scared daddy equals drastic measures, no matter how much mommy wants to keep him a baby.  And so…a bed is now set up in Brogie’s room (the crib is still there too – just in case!).  But the little man did so well!  He laid right down and went to sleep, woke once during the night when he dropped his stuffed dinosaur, but went right back to sleep after I gave it back to him, and woke in the morning.  We have been stressing to him that he must stay in his bed until Mommy or Daddy comes to get him, so he needed to call us when he woke up.  The first time this morning, he got up and came to get us, but we walked him back reminding him to call us.  He hopped up on his bed and yelled, “Momma!” and then for his nap he came and knocked on Daddy’s door, then walked Daddy back into his room so he could call “Da-da!”  He has enjoyed showing off his new bed to his sisters and brother today.  What a big boy – ugh!

(And yes, that IS a pink and green blanket that he is sleeping with.  Why do you ask?  Can you say 4th child?)

He loves taking walks (he gets to walk the dog thankyouverymuch!) and push his lawn mower down the street…two whole houses.  Once he gets 2 houses away, he tires of pushing the mower and wants to leave it right where it is…or have mommy carry him and push the mower and walk the dog.  Walking is fun with us!

Brogie has figured out that if he wants something he needs a big person to get it for him and will grab us by the hand and lead us to where he wants us to go.  Or he will try to get it himself.  He has been found climbing the pantry shelves looking for treats, on top of tables, chairs and anything else he can possibly climb on.

18 months already… and so much more to come.  We enjoy you, sweet bear!

  1. Your cousin Maddie is so proud of you for sleeping in a big boy bed already. Maddie also just switched out of bottles. We are so happy to hear of all the growing changes Brogie Bear is making. We love you!
